Guarantee Scholar Expectations

As a Guarantee Scholar you are required to live on campus for your first two years. Make sure that you have completed your online application for housing. It is highly encouraged but not required to live within Special Interest Housing: Residential College, Lloyds International Honors College, or a Living-Learning Community if you are accepted as a Guarantee Scholar. If you have not already done so, you may select a Special Interest Housing option as your preference. If you have already applied, you can log back in to your application and change your preferences.

It is so important that you register for the earliest SOAR possible. The SOAR website has instructions on how to register for a SOAR session, as well as all the dates the sessions are offered.

First-Year Experience Course

As you are registering for classes at SOAR, it is imperative that you register for a First-Year Experience Course during your first semester here at UNCG. This is not only a requirement for UNCG Guarantee Scholars, but it will also be immensely beneficial to your undergraduate career. Your advisor will help you choose the course best suited for your area of study. Examples include:

  • Bryan School of Business – BUS 105
  • Freshman Seminar Course – FMS 100
  • Foundations for Learning – FFL 100 or 101
  • Health and Human Sciences – HHS 100
  • Honors Colloquium I
  • Corresponding Residential College course
  • School of Education Teaching Fellows Seminar
  • School of Nursing – NUR 110

What is Required for UNCG Guarantee Scholars to Remain in the Program?

  • Maintain academic standards and comply with federal financial aid standards and related institutional policies throughout participation in the program.
  • Complete the FAFSA application for financial aid each year by the December 1st priority deadline. You must reapply for and be granted financial aid each academic year in order to maintain UNCG Guarantee status.
